Introduced as part of Talkswitch software version 5.0, customers using IP phones in a remote office or at home, such as a Teleworker, now have additional options. Supported IP phones can now be registered as external IP extensions. External IP extensions are treated just like local extensions, they can be part of ring groups, voicemail light works, hands free intercom works, there simply is no difference. This is a major enhancement for customers with remote workers, fully integrating them into the phone system.

In order to use external IP extensions, you must be running Talkswitch software 5 or later, and, have a VOIP enabled Talkswitch. Many Talkswitch models can be upgraded to the VOIP version if you do not have a VOIP enabled model. Each external IP phone in use at any given time counts as one VOIP connection. So, if your model has 4 VOIP “ports”, there could be 4 in use external IP phones at one time assuming no other VOIP activity was active. Consider Talkswitch models with model numbers ending in 8VS if you have a lot of remote workers. In use means active, you could have 50 external IP phones for example, but, they would have to be in use on a call to be counted against your models limit.
